School Bands - Junior & Senior
Manly Vale Public School has an excellent band program. From Year 3 onwards, students can become part of this outstanding extra-curricular activity run by professional musical teachers and conductors and perform in many different venues.
Junior Band - for Year 3 students upwards
Students start learning an instrument in Term 4 of Year 2 so that they are ready to begin band at the beginning of Year 3. Information will be distributed to interested families in Term 3 of Year 2 and parents are invited to an information night. Students are then asked to indicate their preferences and given a ‘instrument allocation test' (IAT) before being matched with a suitable instrument.
Any older child may join the band at any stage, and will commence in the Junior Band until assessed to move up to our Senior Band.
Senior Band - for Year 4, 5 & 6 students
Each year band students go on Band Camp in Term 3 or the members of Senior Band go on a band tour (every 3 years).
Some of our students have gone on to perform in regional bands and even the Conservatorium High School like:
NBYO (Northrn Beaches Youth Orchestra)
NSSWE (Northern Sydney Symphonic Wind Ensemble)
The Conservatorium High School
It is a great grounding and advantage to have been through the school band program if planning to do any of the music programs in high school.
All rehearsals are held in the School Hall
Junior Band meets Tuesday and Thursday mornings - 7:35am till 8:45am each week during term - Our Junior Band conductor is Mr Carlos Villanueva.
Senior Band meets Monday and Wednesday mornings - 7:35am till 8:45am each week during term - Our Senior Band conductor is Mr Ben Dickson.
** This will be confirmed - approx tho, $230 per child for each of Terms 1, 2 & 3. Total $690.00 - TBC. Due Week 3 of each of those terms (nothing in Term 4). The fees include our yearly Band Camp cost (there may be a small additional cost for band camp depending on the activities on offer). ** Please note: Fees must be up-to-date to qualify for going on Band Camp.
If parents do not wish to purchase an instrument yet, the school has a collection of instruments available for hire. Alternatively, there are music shops who also offer instrument hire.
Second hand instruments are easy to come by through older siblings, family or Gumtree, eBay etc.
All students must commit to additional private tutor lessons (generally a half hour weekly lesson).
A list of recommended tutors is available upon request.
